UJEB hosted its annual Pre Rosh Hashanah Family Day, bringing the local Jewish community together for a joyful and engaging celebration ahead of the Jewish New Year. The event featured a series of exciting workshops and activities designed to connect families with the traditions and symbols of the festivals over the month of Tishrei, including Rosh Hashanah, Sukkot and Simchat Torah.
One of the highlights was the Chevra Honey Workshop, where families learned about the fascinating process of beekeeping and honey production, just in time to celebrate the New Year with the symbolic sweetness of honey. Children also enjoyed a hands-on activity with the Sukkah Boys, where they worked together to learn how to build and decorate a sukkah, preparing for the upcoming holiday of Sukkot.
Adding to the excitement, the Shofar Factory captivated attendees as they witnessed how to make a shofar and learned about its significance in context with Rosh Hashanah celebrations. Participants were also treated to a Torah Scribe Workshop, offering a unique opportunity to understand the intricate process of writing Hebrew letters for the Torah scroll, getting families excited about the festival of Simchat Torah. Children also got the chance to write their own Hebrew letters with the traditional quill and ink.
The day was filled with amazing stations including JNF making beeswax candles, family trivia, a PJ Library Rosh Hashanah puppet show and a craft session where children made their own sukkah decorations. To round off the event, families shared in the tradition of tasting apples dipped in honey, symbolising the hope for a sweet and prosperous year ahead.
