Become a Bar or Bat Mitzvah with UJEB

About the program

Becoming a Bar or Bat Mitzvah is an incredibly special time in a child’s life. UJEB has programs specifically made for Bar or Bat Mitzvah boys and girls to understand the importance of this milestone, both independently and as a collective, what this time in their lives means and how to become an active part of their Jewish community.

Both the Bar and Bat Mitzvah programs conclude with a ceremony for friends and family.

Bar Mitzvah

Journey to 13 is UJEB’s 6 months long Bar Mitzvah program. This is a creative and alternative option for those boys on their journey to this important milestone. This program has 4 themes over the 6 months to give the Bar Mitzvah boys a well-rounded understanding of this experience. The themes include community and family, culture, exercise and mindfulness, and rites of passage. This program runs twice a year (February and July) and can be run on its own or in conjunction with a more traditional synagogue journey.

Bat Mitzvah

UJEB’s Bat Mitzvah program is a year-long course that aims at helping the girls develop their own identities as Jewish women. UJEB partners with other community organisations such as the Jewish Museum, the National Council of Jewish Women of Australia (NCJWA), and Twelve & Thirteen. Over the course of the year, the Bat Mitzvah girls will be given an opportunity to work closely with these organisations, experience social action, Jewish history, religion, traditions, and culture.
