Update for Parents – Teaching Will be Zooming Forward in Term 2 With E-Learning

Dear Parents,

We hope this update finds you well in these unusual times.

We are excited to bring you news on the way in which UJEB teaching and learning will continue in term 2!

E-learning – Teaching will be Zooming forward in term 2

UJEB is ready for Term 2 and registrations are NOW OPEN!! In the event that UJEB is not permitted to run classes at schools, UJEB is ready to commence the delivery of student learning via online platforms in Term 2.

Now, more than ever, we need to show our children what is important and what we value. We need to teach our children that we value Jewish Education and that this is important. We need to continue a commitment to community and culture. In these unsettling times children will benefit from routine and be comforted by continuing to learn and to connect with their teachers and friends.

Start Date for UJEB classes in term 2.

All UJEB classes will start in the week beginning Monday April 20. This is the 2nd week of the school term. We are unable to start in the 1st week as there is already too much disruption due to the alignment of the Jewish and Australian calendars; Monday (10 April) is a public holiday and Wednesday and Thursday (12&13 April) are Jewish holidays for the final days of Pesach.

How online learning will work

We will be continuing classes using Zoom, an online conferencing platform now widely used for remote teaching. Zoom allows us to continue teaching in the style the students are used to and with the least amount of set-up required by parents. It has some simple features that will be helpful in our teaching, namely the sharing of a whiteboard and screens so the teacher can model and demonstrate, while teaching. HIP Gardenvale has already successfully piloted Zoom lessons and we have been busy upskilling all UJEB teachers to be ready to teach using the Zoom online platform.

What you need to do

Download Zoom on the device your child will be using.

To download zoom click on this link (Download zoom) and choose Zoom Client for Meeting.

Your child’s teacher will send you the details  to Join Zoom Meeting for the class

Register for term 2

UJEB has a brand new website which includes a new, user friendly registration process. All class enrolment will occur via this website and we will be moving away from mailing out printed invoices and reminders.

The process for registering your children for UJEB classes on the new website is quite intuitive but to help make it even easier we have compiled this detailed Guide to register for Term 2.

Guide to register for term 2 – The guide includes links to take you to registration.

Please note: UJEB enrolments operate on a term by term basis. This means that current students must re-register for classes prior to each new term. You are not automatically re-enrolled for the next term ahead.

Exceptions to UJEB online learning

Lunch time classes are cancelled until further notice. Our lunchtime students are able to join a before school class if this is of interest.  If your child is enrolled in a lunchtime class please contact the UJEB office to join a before school class (new enrollments are also accepted).

For Prep students, classes that are due to start in Term 2 (Caulfield South Primary School and Gardenvale Primary School) will be postponed to Term 3. All Prep registrations will automatically be transferred to Term 3.

To prevent interference with schools’ online teaching, all UJEB classes will maintain their current schedule and timetables.

More information will be communicated prior to the commencement of Term 2.
